Why choose CFE supplementary insurance?

The Caisse des Français à l’Etranger (CFE) offers a minimum level of insurance cover to all French nationals living abroad, and to people who have worked in France for a certain length of time, in return for voluntary contributions.

This CFE coverage covers you according to the social security ceilings and reimbursement rates in France, often 70% of your treatment, with ceilings per procedure depending on the negotiations between medical practitioners and the social security system. For example, if a GP’s fee is negotiated at 25 euros, the CFE will reimburse 70% of 25 euros minus the 1 euro co-payment, i.e. 16.50 euros of reimbursement for you for an expense of 25 euros. If you have to pay a GP 50 euros, 100 euros, 150 or more, depending on the rates in your country of expatriation, the CFE will always keep the 25-euro ceiling. For a consultation costing 150 euros, you will be reimbursed 16.50 euros.

Given this mechanism, it is essential to take out complementary insurance to the CFE in many countries where medical costs are higherthan in France.

There are a number of international insurances that complement the CFE, including GoldExpat CFE , our expatriate insurance contract with the same guarantees as GoldExpat 1er euro, which complements CFE reimbursements.

CFE does not provide an exhaustive list of broker insurers offering complementary insurance to CFE, and selects them on the basis of confidential criteria that are not made public.
