How to choose student insurance for Thailand?

How can I be insured as a student in Thailand?

To obtain insurance as a student in Thailand, you have several options to consider. First of all, you can check whether your Thai university offers health insurance. However, this option does not cover all medical expenses.

A more comprehensive and secure alternative is to take out international student insurance. This insurance offers suitable medical cover not only in Thailand, but also when traveling abroad, which is particularly advantageous for international students. It covers all your healthcare expenses and guarantees your repatriation if necessary.

Before making a decision, get your free quote for international student insurance so you can fully understand the coverages offered and choose the option that best suits your needs and budget.

Once you’ve selected your insurance, you can take out your policy online, or contact us for further advice and information from our advisors. You will then receive your attestation d’assurance santé pour étudiant international (health insurance certificate for international students): this document is required for university enrolment or to obtain your Thai student visa.

After your studies, if you’re planning to expatriate to Thailand, you can take out expatriate insurance for Thailand! You can do the same if you’re just planning a trip there. We also offertravel insurance for Thailand.

Can I benefit from UHC as a foreign student in Thailand?

In Thailand, citizens benefiting from Universal Health Coverage (UHC) have free access to the healthcare system. Foreign residents can also take advantage of this program, but to have their medical expenses reimbursed, they must visit public health establishments in their place of residence. Students, on the other hand, are not eligible for UHC due to their non-resident status, and therefore need to take out private health insurance.
The protection offered by Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Thailand is limited, and the care provided in public health facilities is not always as high quality as that available in the private sector.
This is why you should preferably receive care in the private sector if you are a foreign student in Thailand. To do this, take out international student insurance to benefit from medical coverage in both public and private health establishments.

Health insurance for foreign students in Thailand

As a foreign student, health insurance is essential, and you can choose between two options for your medical cover: Thai health insurance or international health insurance, such asstudent health insurance. The latter offers comprehensive coverage for all your medical expenses, with ceilings of up to €250,000, as well as repatriation assistance, third-party liability and many other benefits!

How much does international student insurance cost in Thailand?

Depending on the cover you choose, your age and the length of your stay, you will have access to several options from which to make your selection. You can choose between basic and comprehensive coverage. Costs remain affordable, with starting rates as low as €27, and the price can increase if you wish to add additional guarantees.

Note that taking out health insurance in Thailand with a Thai insurer would be much more expensive, would only offer you coverage on the spot, and the language barrier could pose problems when it comes to contracts, formalities and emergency assistance. So make the sensible choice by taking out Mondassur insurance. Get a free quote for your insurance in Thailand to get an overview of our different insurance packages!
