Vaccines and safety in Egypt
Vaccines and local diseases
No vaccinations are required for visitors, but a yellow fever vaccination certificate is necessary for travelers coming from an endemic area.
Travelers from Sudan must present up-to-date vaccination certificates for the following diseases: yellow fever, typhoid, cerebrospinal meningitis. Travelers unable to present these certificates may be sent back to Khartoum.
An HIV certificate is required for employee stays of over 30 days (spouses and children are not subject to this requirement).
Foreign certificates are not accepted. The screening test must be performed in Egypt.
- For adults, don’t forget vaccinations against tetanus, polio, hepatitis A & B, meningitis A & C, and for at-risk groups: tuberculosis and rabies.
- For children, don’t forget vaccinations against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, tuberculosis, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis A & B (long-stay), meningitis A & C (long-stay for travellers aged 18 months and over) and typhoid (long-stay for travellers aged 5 years and over).
Safety in Egypt
There is a chronic terrorist threat in Egypt, so it is advisable to keep a close eye on domestic developments and follow the instructions of the Egyptian authorities. The road network is decent on the main routes, but of mediocre quality on the secondary roads, and the lack of respect for traffic regulations soon makes your journeys dangerous.
