Macedonia’s history has seen an increase in the number of tourists, making it a vacation destination in its own right. Its geographical location attracts many low-cost flights from major European cities to Skopje and Ohrid.
Skopje, its capital, is awe-inspiring, with the contrast between the contemporary architecture of its main square and the churches, mosques and Ottoman castle of its old town (Carsija). After a day of sightseeing, in the evening you’ll find the locals hanging out in the many bars and restaurants in the bohemian quarter (Debar Maalo).
Macedonia’s size allows tourists to discover mountainous landscapes, numerous lakes and enter the churches and monasteries scattered throughout the country.
